WELCOME

Chester School Sport Partnership supports schools to deliver high quality PE and school sport, through a coordinated local delivery system, ensuring local needs are met and the greatest benefit is felt by all children and young people. The Partnership works with primary and secondary schools to enhance the quality of sporting opportunities through the curriculum, intra and inter school competition and developing the young volunteers of the future.

Aim and vision of the School Sport Partnership.

By working in partnership with schools and other local external agencies the Partnership will endeavour to ensure that young people in the Chester area:

  • Have access to high quality physical education.
  • Have opportunities to take part in a diverse range of school sport.
  • Can challenge themselves at competition both within and in between schools.
  • Can learn leadership skills through appropriate sports leadership activities.
  • Are aware of the best places to practice their interest in sport and physical activity outside school.
  • Have opportunities to take their talent to the highest possible level within sport.

School Games

The School Games is the Government's initiative for school sport and is their strategic priority to increase the number of young people participating in competition and provide a lasting legacy for the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games. The Schools Games are funded by DCMS, Sport England (which distributes Lottery funding), the Department of Health and the Department for Education; with outcomes across School, Health and Sport.

The Games are made up of four levels of activity: competition in schools, between schools, at a county/area level and also at national level:

Intra-school (Level 1) - sporting competition for all students in school through intra-school competition.
Inter-school (Level 2) - individuals and teams are selected to represent their schools in local inter-school competitions.
School Games Festivals (Level 3) – the county/area will stage multi-sport School Games Festivals (Winter and Summer Games) as a culmination of year-round school sport competition.
The School Games (Level 4) - the national multi-sport event where most talented young people in the UK will be selected to compete by National Governing Bodies of Sport .

The School Games website has a variety of resources, competition formats and other useful information for schools to use. Please visit www.yourschoolgames.com for more information or to register.

Chester School Sport Partnership receives a grant of £23,800 national government funding to develop School Games across our primary and secondary schools in the district. It is our responsibility as School Games Organisers to inform you what you actually receive for this funding:

  • A calendar of School Games competitions for primary and secondary schools.
  • Development festivals for years 3&4.
  • Support with sustaining Change 4 Life Clubs.
  • Support with application and verification of School Games Mark.
  • Additional support from your School Games Organiser for 3 days per week to implement all additional tasks as set out in the SGO task list.

The funding received is utilised to meet the salary of the School Games Organiser and does not cover all of the essential delivery costs incurred. It is our ambition to provide these competitions in the most cost effective way possible and will only ever pass on costs actually incurred e.g. hire of a swimming pool, medals, referees etc.

We are continually striving to provide a relevant, suitable and vibrant PE, school sport, and physical activity offer for your young people. We therefore offer to all schools an extended package of support that can be purchased in addition to the nationally funded offer.
